I Can See Clearly Now the Rain has Gone!

I'm back, after a fairly lengthy absence, I realise. All's well, and I'm still alive on planet earth! In my previous post, I see that I was looking forward to a February which has now long disappeared in the floods of time...
View of town from the river, end of February

The rain finally stopped here last weekend, and I'm ecstatic about the rain-free week. My favourite time of year is coming up now, with the end of the rainy season bringing blue skies and perfect weather.
Golden evening on the river, 7th March
Leaves are starting to fall now, while morning and evening temperatures are dropping. The annual floods are coming in, and the river is flowing fast, spilling out of its channel and onto the floodplain.
Fast flowing water, end of February
Happily, our sunsets are back... here's one from last weekend.
Thanks to the high water, we can launch our boat below the rapids - a totally different part of the river, from where one can go all the way down to the four country meeting point.
The world below the rapids, 7th March

Amazingly, we have had friends and family in and out of our place since before Christmas, and, since January we've been muddling along in a sloshy, cloudy environment of rain and mud, as well as covering kilometres of southerly roads with our typre-prints, as ever! I've been trying to maintain some kind of balance here but it's been difficult at times, with work falling behind and blogging not even featuring. My dad left last weekend and he was our last visitor/family member until May... Suddenly it's just us, and it feels as if the festive season has just ended.  A few New Year Resolutions have been dragged out of January's mud puddles, too!
Here is a small floating island, encountered on the river last weekend. Sometimes I can't help feeling like one of these!
Wishing all reading this a wonderful rest of the weekend, and I hope to be back again soon...

Yes, Karen, I missed you, too, but now I understand. I suppose everyone would fel like a floating island after so many visitors and excitements...it can become too much!! But oh, what beautiful pictures! I must enlarge them all and look again in peace. You live in such an incredible place on our planet! And I like this bordertown feeling - different countries all around the corner. We have this here with Poland. It is so mind-enlargĂng!
Thank you for coming to my blog again and all that you said! Hugs to you!

Missed you!

Your pics are fab. Water makes for stunning sunsets, photos, cruises. . . aaaaah I miss it.

Awful to say, but summer rains here seemed to be over and . . . . we've just had more! It's great, but hell! the ineffecient Roads Agency can't keep up with the damage the water causes to the roads (compounded by too much traffic). Thank God I drive a 4x4! Joburg beginning to look like the rest of undeveloped Africa.

So happy to see you back. Glad to know all well and wish you much peace and quiet now that your B&B duties are on hold ...until May.

Wonderful pics. You do so live in a glorious spot. Take care and enjoy the clear skies and sunshine.

Hi Karen ... gosh I've missed you! Isn't it funny how, when you are in the eye of the hurricane busy -ness that is your life, that time seems to be sucked into a vortex - and before you know it, another month has passed? I always look forward to your beautiful pictures. Glad your rainy season has subsided and I wish you blue skies for the rest of the weekend.

I am so glad you have resurfaced! It's interesting to hear you say the best season is just approaching, because it looked like the last one was really pretty good. I do hope to make it to your part of the world some day!

Happy fall! Your pictures are stunning. I love the fall colors reflected in the water, and of course the lily pads.

Summer is meant for lots of interaction and busyness. I'm glad you've had visitors and lots of rain to keep everything hydrated after the season ends.

The blue skies are gorgeous!!

Wow- your Botswana is very different from My Botswana. We've hardly had any rain in Mahalapye. The week before last I drove to Maun and was surprised how wet everything looked. I felt like I could finally exhale. We're going to have a tough winter this side.
